What a wondrous tale, Suzy! I love the almost-mystery of the beginnings of your connection with Merri and her family - it’s great that you’re still in touch and your son and hers can share little things about you!

It was hilarious when they started sharing stories...but I really can't remember telling my son he was half vampire. I'm sure he was making that up.

Wonderful. My female friendships rescue me time and again. My best friend, who has been there for me through it all, since we were 12. We have navigated such loss and heartache together, and such joy, hope and laughter. She is my soul sister. The other things that save me are diving into open water, and writing.

Female friendships are the utterly the best. diving into open water? That's so cool - where do you do that? What kind of writing do you do?

sorry I'm replying on all sorts of threads - just getting used to substack!! My writing is narrative non-fiction, soul stories. It brings me such joy. First book is under submission and second one just beginning - well I started in your writing hour on Tues!! I live in Surrey so I tend to swim in lakes here, I get to the sea when I can, but to be honest I'm a lakes and mountains girl. Give me a cold clear lake any day of the week, or ideally a Scottish Loch x

What a fabulous story and I bet it was so nice for Charlie to experience NYC at a similar age, and love that you kept in touch with everyone, must have been amazing to see them again. PS Charlie looks a lot like my manchild, (15), tall and same crazy blond hairstyle! 😆

Charlie is gigantic. Man child is a good description. It was fantastic to introduce Charlie to this lovely family who saved me when I was his age.

What a beautiful full circle moment. Pure joy. I remember sitting and reading The Northern Echo as a teen hoping it might have my dream job in it. Never found it so created my own. Hope you are having THE best time!

Will leave the darkness tales for another day but I will say walking, running or simply being on the same streets time after time has been such sweet medicine for me. ✨💜
