It’s been a rough old week in the world.
I’ve set myself a goal of writing 5,000 words this week, just to get the first draft of this damn novel finished. But on weeks like today, with the world outside feeling like it’s upside down, it’s hard to keep going.
Here’s the thing, though: writing is how we take control.
When everything feels chaotic, writing gives us a way to shape our narrative. It lets us make sense of the noise and carve a little space for truth, creativity, and connection. Whether it’s a novel, a blog post, or just a scribbled journal entry, writing pulls us back to who we are.
Yes, we can moan, feel down, and sink into despair—but we can also write. We can write ourselves onto the page. We can write our anger, our joy, a few jokes maybe, and the truth about how we really feel.
With platforms like Substack, we can share these stories with a community of like-minded souls and connect and support each other..
Writing is a quiet rebellion against the chaos, a way to step out of the madness and into something real.
Stories change the world.
They reframe perspectives, spark conversations, and inspire action.
We can’t leave storytelling to billionaires or corporations, or leaders who don’t speak for us.
We need to write our own stories—stories that weave magic, inspire joy, and spell out the truth. With fact-checking firmly in place.
Writing connects us, empowers us, and reminds us that we are creators, not just consumers.
So let’s do it.
Let’s write.
Let’s take charge of our narrative, one word at a time.
Together, we can build something beautiful, something true.
Join me for the Heart Leap Writing Hour at 9am today. Let’s show up, write, and keep the magic alive. One word at a time.
One story at a time.
(Don’t forget to connect and introduce yourself to the group.)
Let’s connect together and write ourselves into the world we want to see.
Writing Prompt:
Think of a character (real or imagined) who feels trapped—by their circumstances, a belief, or the world around them. What’s the one small, defiant act they take to reclaim their power? Write the scene where everything shifts.
(Don’t forget to enter the Alnwick Story Fest writing competition on Fearless Writing - deadline is 7th February)
