When to save your energy and when to splurge
Heart Leap writing hour starts at 9am.
“Instead of worrying about what you cannot control, shift your energy to what you can create.” Roy T. Bennett
This month, we’ve been focussing on investment. We have talked a lot about money and time but what about our energy currency?
Because honestly, some days I feel like I’m trying to pay my life bills with emotional loose change.
I’ve learned (the hard way, with caffeine and people-pleasing receipts to prove it): you can’t make energy out of overdraft. You can only redirect it. So, here’s my quick guide to knowing when to save and when to splurge.
Save your energy when:
You’re trying to prove yourself to people who wouldn’t notice if you burst into flames.
You’re doomscrolling instead of reading a great book.
You’re saying yes because you’re scared they’ll think you’re rude (spoiler: they won’t remember).
You’re multitasking so hard your soul files for separation.
Splurge your energy when:
You’re creating something that lights you up from the inside.
You’re laughing with the person who feels like home.
You’re walking outside and your brain finally stops shouting.
You’re investing in rest — the luxury suite of self-worth.
Your energy is your most precious currency. Spend it like someone who finally knows their worth — and watch what comes back with interest.
Journal prompt:
Where could you redirect your energy towards something that actually fuels you back?
For the next few weeks, I’m doubling up on the Heart Leap Writing Hour — every Monday to Thursday, 9–10am (UK). We write together. You turn up with whatever you’re working on, and you’re met by people who get it. You don’t have to explain yourself — you just have to show up.
If you want a calm, friendly place to write for an hour, we start at 9am today.
