“When I am numb, how can I make myself connected? I can't. But I can try to create an environment that is welcoming for connection if it should turn up.”
― Kae Tempest, On Connection
Happy Friday!
This month, we’re focusing on exploring connection.
Here’s your journalling prompts for today:
What do you do when you feel numb? What do you do when you feel disconnected and alone?
How can you create an environment that is ‘welcoming for connection if it should turn up?’ Be it in your own head and heart or simply in your own living space?
Which environments IRL can you inhabit that might encourage connection - from the yoga studio to the local cafe? And which don’t?
How can you put yourself in the way of connection?
I made a new connection recently. We were swimming parallel to each other in the outdoor pool. She had my full admiration because with her back to the pool side, she pulled her self up with her arms, pulled herself again into her chair and donned her swimming coat. I use the steps because my arms aren't strong enough to do that. That struck me as ironic that in a way she was more able than me.
"Wow! I can't do that...pull myself up," I said. It was the beginning of a new connection. We have a shared creative interest, and from time to time she brings her clothes, which we laugh about, and we have an early coffee after swimming. Normally she would go straight home to change and I appreciate her effort.
It's a developing relationship but it just began by being out there in the world and being friendly then meeting a willing responder.
