What’s one thing you’re proud of yourself for this year?
Day 3 of the big and gentle end-of-year review.
“You, yourself, as much as anybody in the universe, deserve your love and affection.” – Buddha
Ah, wise words, but let’s be honest: how often do we actually take them to heart? If you’re anything like me, you’ve spent the year worrying about everyone else—work deadlines, family dramas, friends who needed some extra love—leaving precious little time to show yourself some proper care.
But as 2024 draws to a close, it’s time to change that. We’ve made it through another year, for goodness’ sake! Whether it’s been triumphant, tumultuous, or a bizarre mix of the two, you’ve done your best. And that deserves some genuine acknowledgement.
What’s one thing you’re proud of yourself for this year?
It could be monumental—landing a new job, starting a creative project, or navigating a personal challenge. Or maybe it’s something quieter, like keeping a promise to yourself, finally sorting out that chaotic cupboard, or simply getting through the days when life felt overwhelming. Big or small, it all matters.
Once you’ve identified your moment of pride, write a short letter to your 2024 self. Imagine you’re speaking to a dear friend—because let’s face it, you deserve that same warmth and kindness.
Why This Matters
When you pause to recognise your own efforts and resilience, it strengthens your sense of self-worth and helps you carry those lessons forward into the new year.
And let’s face it, we all spend enough time being critical of ourselves. This is your chance to flip the script and celebrate your own humanity—the successes, the lessons, and the ways you’ve grown.
So, Shall We?
Grab your journal, a cosy drink, and a little peace and quiet. Give yourself a moment to look back on the year with love, humour, and gratitude. You’ve done more than you think, and you’re a lot stronger than you probably give yourself credit for.
And if you feel like sharing your proudest moment from 2024, pop it in the comments below. Let’s wrap up this year with a little collective cheer—and perhaps a biscuit or two.
Great idea Suzy, mine are cutting down work I don’t want to do, starting a Substack (3 pieces so far!) & finishing the first draft of my novel (but not the re-write - that’s for next year!).
I love this, I am going to be writing that letter in my journal tomorrow! But I know what I am most proud of, it is starting my Substack and putting myself out there in a writing sense. Thanks Suzy for your writing hours, they have become an important part of my new writing practice 🙏🏻
