“I write entirely to find out what I’m thinking, what I’m looking at, what I see, and what it means. What I want and what I fear.” – Joan Didion
Writing to Figure It All Out
Is just me or does life feels like a jumble of half-formed thoughts and blurry feelings sometimes? You don’t know what’s up, what’s down, or why the sight of your neighbour’s gnome-filled garden made you oddly emotional this morning. And that’s where writing steps in, like the friend who hands you a cup of tea and says, “Okay, let’s sort this out.”
Writing doesn’t need you to have the answers. It doesn’t care if you’re unsure or messy. It’s just a safe space to spill it all out—what you love, what you hate, what you’re scared of, what you’re secretly hoping for—and let the words start connecting the dots.
Sometimes, you’ll come away with a breakthrough, and sometimes, you’ll just feel a bit lighter, like you’ve emptied your mental junk drawer. Either way, it’s worth it.
Journal Prompt:
What do I want, and what do I fear?
Set a timer for 10 minutes. Let the words flow without judgment. Write as though no one will ever read it but you. Explore freely—your thoughts, your surroundings, your emotions, and see where your writing takes you.
