“Sometimes when you think you are done, it is just the edge of beginning. Probably that's why we decide we're done. It's getting too scary. We are touching down onto something real. It is beyond the point when you think you are done that often something strong comes out.”
— Natalie Goldberg

I read this quote today and it stopped me in my tracks — the good kind of stop. The deep breath, hand on heart, oh yes that’s it kind.

Because honestly? I’ve been there. You probably have too. That moment where you feel totally wrung out — creatively, emotionally, energetically. The temptation to call it quits isn’t just appealing, it feels wise. Responsible, even. Like you’ve done enough.

But what if you’re not done?

What if that tight, uncomfortable place is actually the threshold to something better? More truthful. More you.

Natalie Goldberg reminds us that the moment we want to walk away is often the moment we’re about to touch something real. And real can be scary — but it’s also where the magic lives. The shift, the insight, the wild new idea. The page that writes itself. The decision that changes everything.

So if you’re standing at the edge, feeling a little shaky, know this: you are not broken. You’re brave. You’re right on time.

Keep going.

Little Prompts for Big Shifts:

  • Where in your life are you telling yourself you’re “done” — and what might be hiding just beyond that?

  • What does it feel like when something is real for you?

  • What might happen if you gave it five more minutes? One more line? A little more breath?

Let it rise. You're not finished — you're just beginning.
