“I am my own sanctuary.” — Simone de Beauvoir
If I’m honest, my inner world can feel more like a building site than a sanctuary. Half-finished rooms. Tools everywhere. A few leaks I keep meaning to fix. Some days I can’t even find the front door.
However, I’m learning that it’s possible to start feeling safe and get stuff done before everything’s perfect. To rest despite the ongoing renovation, to learn where to spend my attention, what to protect, and how to invest in a kind of peace that doesn’t depend on everything being done. I can write a page or few more words on my novel even when the world feels like it’s in chaos around me.
So no, I’m not my own sanctuary yet. But I’m building the foundations. Slowly. Quietly. Brick by gentle brick. Word by word.
Journal Prompt
For the next few weeks, I’m doubling up on the Heart Leap Writing Hour — every Monday to Thursday, 9–10am (UK). We write together. You turn up with whatever you’re working on, and you’re met by people who get it. You don’t have to explain yourself — you just have to show up.
Come for the writing. Stay for the people. We start at 9am today.
Here’s the link if if you’re a paid subscriber.
