At Heart Leap, I explore how to build a happy, creative, and simple life. At 9 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, I host ‘happy writing hours’ for paid subscribers. It’s for anyone who is trying to write a book, start a substack, or just have a little accountability for their writing practice. We chat for 5 minutes or so, and then we write quietly together for the rest of the hour. It’s strangely comforting and motivational to have a cohort of writers to support you and write alongside you. I also run monthly master classes on motivation and inspiration.
We have ‘extra’ day today.
It’s leap year.
I encouraged you at the beginning of 2024 to think of it as your ‘heart leap year’.
The year that you turned your ship around pointed it in the direction you wanted to go.
The year that you would notice about what REALLY makes your heart leap versus what society tells you should make you happy.
The year that you get curious about how you knit your heart leaps into your days.
The year that you notice what makes your heart sink and stop punishing yourself to try and make it work with people, places, tasks that drain your energy.
Maybe it’s time to stop saying….. ‘one day, I’ll start moving in the direction I want to go.’
Maybe one day is today.
I read that today is the day for women to propose marriage to their partner on leap day. (The tradition dates back to fifth-century Ireland, when Saint Bridget complained to Saint Patrick that women were tired of waiting for men to propose, apparently)
Maybe today, we update that idea for the 21st Century.
Maybe leap day is the day we make a proposal to ourselves – to stop waiting for happiness but to create it on our own terms.
What might happen if you started today?
What if today was the day?
4 questions to consider:
1. If a fairy godmother waved a wand and it was four years on – 29th February 2028 – and you were living the life you really wanted – what does it look like?
2. Why do you want that life – how do you think that life might make you feel? Inspired, satisfied, safe, calm, proud?
3. How might you feel those feelings today?
4. What actions can you take that will make you feel inspired/satisfied/safe/calm/proud/fillintheblank today?
Happy Heart Leap Day!
I love those questions.
Suzy, thanks for making my Heart Leap 💕 and inspiring all of us. 🤗🫶🏻
