Learn how to pitch an idea to the national press today at 1pm
And join our live features meeting - bring your ideas.
At Heart Leap, I explore how to build a happy, creative, and simple life. At 9 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, I host ‘happy writing hours’ for paid subscribers. It’s for anyone who is trying to write a book, start a Substack, or just have a little accountability for their writing practice. We chat for 5 minutes or so, and then we write quietly together for the rest of the hour. It’s strangely comforting and motivational to have a cohort of writers to support you and write alongside you. I also run monthly master classes on motivation and inspiration. Today I am running a masterclass on writing for the national press and hosting a ‘features’ meeting live.
I am freelancing for the national press at the moment - from The Guardian to The Telegraph. It can be a good way to earn income as we build our Substack universe and also bring new followers to our work.
I have been a journalist for nearly 30 years for national magazines and newspapers and have commissioned articles and written articles for others. Someone in our Heart Leap community asked me how I pitch so I thought it would be useful to create a ‘masterclass’ about how I do it and then have a live brainstorm and ‘features meeting’.
In this 60 minute masterclass, I will teach you everything I know about pitching an article and then we’ll have a freelance features meeting so bring any ideas.
In this masterclass we will discuss:
What publication and slot to pitch to?
Who is the audience?
Who to pitch to and how to get your ideas to them
What’s your idea?
What’s the hook?
How to present your pitch?
We will then have a live features meeting - so bring your ideas.
See you at 1pm.
