How Warmth Can Help Me Rest, Reset, and Host a Festival
Day 22 of the Fire Up Your February Challenge
It’s officially one week until Alnwick Story Fest, and I’ll be honest—I’m flagging a little. The excitement is real, but so is the exhaustion. Right now, my body is whispering (okay, shouting) "hibernate!", and I’m taking the cue from science. Instead of pushing through on empty, I’m pressing pause and using the magic of warmth to rest, reset, and recharge—so I’m fully energised to help host the festival in my beautiful hometown next weekend.
Why Warmth = Comfort (And a Full Energy Refill)
Science says warmth isn’t just comforting—it actually switches on your body’s natural relaxation response. When we feel warm, our parasympathetic nervous system kicks in, reducing stress and making us feel safe. And that’s exactly what I need before a weekend of storytelling magic.
Bonus brain boost: Warmth also triggers oxytocin—the ‘love hormone’—which helps us feel connected, calm, and ready to show up for others. Perfect festival-hosting fuel!
My Science-Backed Plan for Rest & Recharge
1️⃣ Weighted Blanket & Big Hoodies – Deep pressure calms the nervous system, like a reassuring hug. Basically, self-soothing 101.
2️⃣ Tea, Soup & Cosy Drinks – Sipping warmth literally makes you feel better. Science says so. (Extra points for drinking from a giant, comforting mug.)
3️⃣ Cocoon Mode: Activated – Today’s mission: curl up, slow down, and let my nervous system relax. A quiet, cosy corner = cortisol levels dropping = future festival energy rising.
Final Thoughts: Rest to Rise
Right now, I’m choosing rest as my power move. By pausing today, I’ll be ready to bring my absolute best to Alnwick Story Fest next weekend—energised, excited, and fully present.
So if you need me, I’ll be under a blanket with a cup of tea. Science says it’s the best thing for me. 😌☕
