How do you build a relationship with yourself?
The Artist's Way: An introduction. We started today.
We started The Artist’s Way today.
In this week’s introduction to The Artist’s Way, The Heart Leap Club came together for the introduction call.
We talked about the basic principles of the course, our relationship with the word ‘God’ (Good Orderly Direction?) and how to build a relationship with ourselves.
How?
Start with this question:
How do you spend quality time….with yourself - on a regular basis?
If you don’t know the answer to this, Julia Cameron suggests three tools;
Morning pages - three pages of stream of consiousness journalling every day.
The Artist’s Date - a two hour creative date with your inner artist/child. We shared ideas from art exhibitions and solo cinema trips, to mosaic making.
Weekly exercises from The Artist’s Way I think of these like DIY coaching sessions with yourself.
Today, we got to meet our inner critic and our inner killjoy.
And we set out our stall and signed a ‘contract’
Here’s the contract:
“I, …………., understand that I am undertaking an intensive, guided encounter with my own creativity. I commit myself to the 12-week duration of the course. I commit to weekly reading, daily morning pages, a weekly artist date, and the fulfillment of each week’s tasks.
I further understand that this course will raise issues and emotions for me to deal with. I commit myself to excellent self-care, adequate sleep, diet, and exercise, and pampering for the duration of the course.
Signed: ………….
Date……..
It’s not too late to join us.
We start week 1 next week.
