Death and ten fundamental truths about feeling more energetic.
Tonight, we were joined by Simon Alexander Ong, award-winning coach and best-selling author for our monthly masterclass in our Heart Leap Club.
Tonight I hosted our second masterclass since setting up The Heart Leap Club with the inspirational Simon Alexander Ong, who gave us the low down on how to superboost our energy so we can get busy living.
(Our paid subscribers get access to one masterclass a month with an inspirational speaker. Last month, we talked to John Williams, author of Screw Work, Let’s Play )
This month, with Simon, we talked about death fairly early on in the interview. Simon lost his dad when he was 17 and this focussed him on getting very clear about how to squeeze the most out of his time on earth. Probably why his book resonated with me so much. If you want an inspiring read, I heartily recommend it. (Energize was in my top three favourite books of last year)
We all need energy
Together, we are a community building lives that makes our hearts leap. For me that means creating ‘a simple life of ease and fun, full of love, creativity and freedom.’ (My new mission statement!) But even a life of fun, ease and freedom needs energy. If our tanks are empty, it can be so difficult to take the action that’s needed to create a vision, build new habits and keep ourselves on track.
Being an extrovert, I certainly find it easier to do this with good company (that’s you!) Being with people who share my values superboosts my energy.
It was so lovely to see so many of you here last night at Heartleap HQ
Thank you for supporting me.
10 stark truths about your life energy
by Simon Alexander Ong
1. To live in energetic flow is to be connected to your true self with a focus on living a life of purpose and meaning. It’s an essential skill to master if you are serious about realising your potential, because your best work can only flow from concentrating your attention on the things that matter to you.
2. There’s a big difference between success and fulfilment. We can look successful on the outside, whether that is a nice house, a nice car, the pay check, the status, but we might feel pain inside because we’re not fulfilled.
3. When you’re walking down the wrong path, when you’re in a toxic relationship or when you’re betraying your core values, it will have a detrimental impact on your energy.
4. Your energy is everything: it is the fuel that drives real success (the success that fulfils you) and gives you the power to achieve your potential.
5. The ability to master your energy is key to self-mastery – it’s a powerful force and the better you are at managing it, the greater the impact on the way you live and work. It’s a truth that the world’s most successful people understand.
6. To avoid the overwhelm that can be experienced when pursuing big goals, the key is to break them down into smaller steps and tiny bite-size actions so that the path ahead doesn’t feel as daunting.
7. Start where you are, get some small wins under your belt, and it will give you the energy to continue moving forward.
8. Success in any endeavour is a slow, gradual process that ultimately rewards those who can consistently follow the path and do the work that the majority are simply not willing to do. It isn’t particularly sexy or glamorous. Dig deeper into nearly every ‘overnight success story’ and you will discover years of hard work, sacrifices and persistence.
9. Success isn’t a random act, and people don’t rise from nothing. Too many of us pray for colossal changes and results today, but fail to appreciate that if what you desire is really important, you will enjoy the climb as much as the view at the summit.
10. Successful outcomes are rarely the result of a single choice but are built up through good choices over time.
Simon’s book Energize: Make the most of every Moment is out now.
