“Creativity takes courage.” — Henri Matisse
It’s true.
To be creative you need to be willing to show up and create something badly.
To be a beginner again.
To make some bold, clumsy brush strokes, write a bad sentence, sing a bum note.
You can’t be brilliant straight away.
You need to learn your craft.
You need to practice.
You will fail.
You will be rejected.
The failure and rejection will trigger all your ‘not good enough/imposter syndrome/fear of being laughed at’.
And that’s when you need to be brave and do it all again.
And again.
Until you get better.
Until you find a new way.
Until you find your groove.
No one is brilliant (or rarely brilliant) first time.
It takes persistence.
And courage while you face your inner demons as you persist.
Be brave today.
P.S The Heart Leap Writing Hour starts at 9am. Do join our friendly, kind bunch of writers who come together to be brave and persist with their writing twice a week on a Tuesday and Thursday. Here’s the link.
