1 in, 10 out
Can't resist buying stuff? Try this. (And don't forget to get rid of 12 things today)
"Minimalism doesn’t mean you’ll never treat yourself to something new again. It’s about buying with intention, being mindful of what you bring into your life. And just as importantly, it’s about letting go—boldly and deliberately. In fact, you can do both at the same time!" Joshua Fields Millburn
“When I first started simplifying, I was overwhelmed by how much stuff I wanted to jettison. That overwhelm compounded because I still felt the pall of future purchases.
To combat impulse shopping and aid my minimizing efforts, I implemented a rule: the 1-in-10-out Rule,” says Joshua
For every item Joshua acquired, he had to get rid of ten things he owned.
Want that new shirt? Ten articles of clothing hit the donation bin.
Want that new chair? Ten pieces of furniture make it to eBay.
Want that new blender? Ten kitchen items are axed.
For the next 2 weeks - how would it be if you implemented the 1 in 10 rule?
“This rule helped me reshape my everyday-consumption habits, and, much like the 30-Day Minimalism Game, it helped me strengthen my letting-go muscles,” he says.
We are strengthening our letting go muscles this October.
Can you let go of 12 things today?
Here’s what’s going to the recycling today.

I ran a Facebook group called give away every day a few years back. It was great
